What Have We Done This Year?

From the April/May 2025 LATA newsletter: here

Every year the Learning Assistance Teachers’ Association (LATA), a Provincial Specialist Association of the BCTF, makes significant contributions to the public education system through curriculum initiatives, in-service education, professional development, ministry committees, publications, presentations and conferences. Our primary focus is on supporting educators working with struggling learners. 2024/2025 was no exception.

During the course of the year we have:

  • Planned and presented our yearly PSA Day Conference: Literacy: A Fundamental Right, A Universal Right.
  • Developed and expanded upon our equity and accessibility guidelines for LATA members.
  • Reviewed and revised LATA‘s policies and procedures.
  • Provided feedback to the Ministry of Education through our BCTF Ministry liaison.
  • Worked to become more effective digital communicators for BC Educators.
  • Provided scholarships for Inclusive Education educators to participate in ongoing professional development.
  • Provided 2 newsletters for the 2024/25 year.
  • We have begun planning our 2025 October 24, 2025 PSA Online Conference: We All Belong.
